EMS partner with John Morfield Ltd to provide turnkey particulate extraction and monitoring systems for several sites of a leading independent Scottish distillery.

John Morfield Ltd

Environmental Monitoring Solutions Ltd has installed tribo-electric particulate monitors at two distillery sites on behalf of John Morfield Ltd, a leading UK filtration supplier with offices in Scotland and England. When John Morfield Ltd were asked to include continuous emissions monitoring with their systems as a turnkey solution, they turned to EMS.  Auburn Systems probes were integrated with John Morfield’s bespoke filtration solutions to provide continuous particulate monitoring in line with their client’s permit requirements.

Origins and Requirement

The end client planned to install new filtration systems at several sites around the UK, and began their roll-out at their sites in St Helier, Jersey and Girvan, Scotland. John Morfield were contracted to provide the filtration systems and ducting required for each distillery’s new production lines.

Both sites were required by the Local Authorities to monitor their particulate output on a continuous basis to satisfy the output limit requirements of their environmental permits.

EMS worked closely in collaboration with John Morfield and their client to ensure that their needs were fully understood and that the proposed solution was fit for purpose. The Auburn Systems 3600 series was the ideal solution, designed to monitor both AC and DC signals for greater reliability, and show both current particulate readings and alarm events on a local display. When fitted with a datalogger the solution enabled the client to download their emissions data quickly and efficiently to demonstrate compliance to their Local Authority inspectors.

The installation in Jersey in particular required effective liaison with the end client and their engineering main contractor, to ensure that our installation was completed within a very tight time frame. EMS’ flexibility on project delivery ensured that our engineers arrived on site ready to install and commission the Auburn 3600 monitor that same afternoon.

The collaboration between EMS/John Morfield and their client meant that a cost-effective solution to their monitoring requirements was provided on time, on specification and on budget. This allowed the client to move forward with their programme without any delays and ensured that they could start operations on schedule, safe in the knowledge that they were compliant with their environmental obligations.

Kevin English of John Morfield was delighted with the outcome:
On a recent project to supply a dust extraction system complete with emission monitoring equipment we worked with one of the market leaders, EMS to provide a one stop solution for the client. The installations consisted of stainless steel ductwork, dust collection unit and emission monitoring equipment. Both installations were successfully completed at two very different locations in the UK. Working in close partnership made this possible with minimal inconvenience to the client allowing the projects to be completed within the desired timescale.
