Up until December
2001, Cogent Defence Systems operated as a subsidiary of
Nortel Networks UK Ltd. The business was then
transferred to EADS Telecom. In 2003, EADS acquired all
the equity in Cogent Defence and Security Networks (CDSN)
and restructured its defence interests. Now known as
EADS Defence and Security Systems Ltd, the Company is
the Systems House for EADS in the UK employing over 900
people. Headquartered in Newport, South Wales, with a
growing reputation as the partner of choice in the
defence and homeland security markets.

TRAIN TO GAIN FUNDING FOR ENVIRONMENTAL COURSES
Specialist water and environmental consultants
Environmental Monitoring Solutions (EMS) Ltd are now
approved providers with Action for Employment (A4e) and
have formed part of A4e consortiums to provide Train 2
Gain Level 2 NVQ’s in Environmental Conservation and
Community Recycling in the North East, East Midlands,
West Midlands and London.
The courses are fully funded (100%) for employers
who meet the following eligibility criteria:
• Candidates must be over 19 years old
• Have no previous NVQs @ level 2 or above or
qualifications equivalent to 5 GCSEs @ grade C or above.

NEW CIEH ENVIRONMENTAL AND HEALTH AND SAFETY TRAINING COURSES
Environmental Monitoring Solutions Ltd (EMS) have
recently become accredited to offer CIEH (Chartered
institute of Environmental Health) courses. Companies are required by law to
train their staff on environmental, health and safety practices and EMS has
experienced a major increase in demand from businesses that require specialist
training in these areas.

UVDB Certification
EMS has been registered as a supplier on the Utilities
Vendor Database (UVDB) for a range of environmental
monitoring and consultancy services.

EMS are an approved provider with Action for Employment
(A4e) in South Yorkshire to offer 40% funding towards NVQ
courses to small to medium size companies who pass the

Ponsel
EMS has been granted the exclusive UK distributor rights by French manufacturer
Ponsel for their range of water quality measuring devices.
Since 1948 Ponsel has specialised in the manufacture of portable and fixed site
instruments for monitoring a range of water quality parameters – Turbidity,
Suspended Solids, Conductivity, pH/ORP, Dissolved Oxygen, Temperature and sludge
blanket.
Ponsel probes can also be used with ISCO samplers to enable programmes and log
data.
