The opportunity

EMS has an exciting new opportunity to employ a Project IT Engineer, in this role you will be responsible for maintaining EMS’ data architecture; managing the overarching data framework, collecting data from a variety of field instruments to be visualised on eDAS Web; EMS’ flagship web-based Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) platform.

The position is predominantly based at EMS’ Sheffield office, however some remote working once established within the team is open for negotiation. It is expected that you will possess the ability to problem solve, work alone and as part of EMS’ Technical team. You will provide customer support and development of technical solutions. Dexterity and the ability to quickly familiarise themselves with new products and applications is essential.

The position requires you to manage, maintain, diagnose and remedy faults on a range of Microsoft Azure services and proprietary software applications handling environmental monitoring instrumentation data, alongside administration of the associated database(s). You will also be required to provide first-line support to customers, including setup and configuration of supplied IT equipment.

Reporting to the Technical Manager, you will be enthusiastic, diligent, adaptable and willing to own problems, demonstrating dedication to take them through to successful conclusions.

 

Essential and Desirable Skills/Experience

  • Comp TIA, degree or relevant apprenticeship, or similar qualification in IT support
  • Programming qualification and/or experience in scripting languages, e.g. Visual Basic
  • Proficient with using Microsoft Windows with knowledge of domain operation
  • TCP/IP network configuration and troubleshooting, including an understanding of subnetting
  • Understanding of cloud architecture and resources, specifically Microsoft Azure
  • Working knowledge of Application Programming Interfaces (APIs)
  • Interest in monitoring, fault finding, and debugging of data systems
  • An aptitude to learn new software and hardware
  • Good communication skills and ability to extract relevant diagnostic information from users

Preferable but not essential skills:

  • Technical skills and experience of equipment used in environmental monitoring applications
  • Cisco CCNA or similar qualification
  • Foundation skills in PLC and SCADA (programming and fault finding)
  • Ability to read and understand technical drawings and diagrams
