Sonja is the Head of Innovation at EMS, where she leads the coordination and delivery of cutting-edge projects focused on enhancing the performance of wastewater networks through advanced technologies. In addition to providing her technical expertise, Sonja plays a key role in identifying and developing innovative approaches that drive sustainable, efficient, and cost-effective solutions across the water industry.
Her work focuses on developing solutions, such as the CENTAUR® system, which uses artificial intelligence to enhance wastewater management by reducing the number and volume of CSO spills. This reduces environmental risks, improves outcomes, and alleviates both operational costs and infrastructure strain.
She has been instrumental in advancing innovation, collaborating closely with water companies and universities to foster strong partnerships across commercial and technical sectors. Sonja has in-depth knowledge of water infrastructure along with machine learning, hydraulic modelling, data and analytical skills. Her efforts align closely with EMS’s commitment to innovation and sustainability, addressing the growing pressures on wastewater infrastructure.
Sonja’s specialisms:
- Artificial intelligence (Fuzzy Logic, Genetic Algorithms, Neural Networks)
- Control systems and software development
- Real-time data modelling and optimisation
