Wastewater-Based Epidemiology

Wastewater based epidemiology

EMS provides a wastewater-based epidemiology service, alerting you to the presence of specific bacteria or viruses such as Covid-19 in wastewater.

Have a question?

Contact our expert David Claridge for more information.

Testing wastewater can give early warning of potential viral or bacterial outbreaks. A WBE (Wastewater-Based Epidemiology) service can alert management to the presence of viruses such as Covid-19 far earlier than individual testing. It is also possible through our WBE service to evaluate the efficiency of wastewater treatment at removing pathogens, and evaluate the discharge of harmful viruses and bacteria.

Sampling

A WBE service is dependent on expert sampling, as issues may arise from the extraction of the sample, its high dilution, or the contaminants within.

Our clients often request the measurement of highly specific parameters or substances, meaning that your business is well positioned to receive expert solutions.

Key Benefits
  • Cost-effective
  • Provides early warning of outbreaks
  • Reliable confirmation of infection rates falling or rising
  • Provides information in areas where interaction with healthcare is limited
