What is our Section 82 service?

Our work is underpinned by a framework of defined, scalable, and quality-assured processes. This ensures consistent delivery while retaining the flexibility to adapt to projects of any scope or complexity. Resource requirements are functionally derived, with skilled operatives assigned at each critical stage of the programme lifecycle – from initial surveys through to installation, commissioning, and ongoing maintenance.

Pre Deployment

Getting it right starts before installation

  • Desktop studies to assess mixing zones, hydraulic viability, and potential risks
  • Hierarchy of site selection: safety, access, connectivity, hydrology, signal and power
  • Surveys and permissions including EIAs, CEMPs, and all permitting requirements.
  • Managing challenges such as land access and protected species
  • Unlocking opportunities through clustering and streamlined permitting

What does Section 82 mean for WaSCs in 2026?

Water companies must have started implementing continuous water-quality monitoring systems at their discharge points. This involves installing water-quality sondes upstream and downstream of storm overflows and sewage-works discharges.

They must first focus on “high-priority” sites (e.g. sensitive watercourses, protected habitats, bathing-water catchments) and must plan to eventually complete full coverage.

For WaSCs in 2026, Section 82 means a major operational commitment: They must install and maintain continuous water-quality monitoring across many discharge sites, build data-collection and reporting systems, and gradually scale up to full compliance over the coming years.

Technology deployment, calibration, maintenance, managing site access, planning permission, and data publication infrastructure will require expert input and defined processes.
