EMS support New Design Group in improving their green credentials

EMS helped New Design Group improve their sustainability credentials, leading to multiple benefits for the business.

Overview

EMS provided comprehensive support to New Design Group, a premium furniture design and manufacturing company. They wanted to improve their green credentials in response to the growing importance of sustainability in their industry and tender applications. EMS’s assistance resulted in New Design Group achieving multiple accreditations, as well as carbon neutrality. They have seen positive impacts of these new credentials on their sales process and are now a more adaptable and resilient business.

The client

New Design Group produce contemporary contract office furniture for sale across the UK and worldwide. They are guided by principles of great design, functionality, and enhanced human experience. The majority of their products are manufactured on site, ensuring meticulous quality and the opportunity for customisation.

Client benefits

  • After working with EMS, New Design Group progressed to having several accreditations, including the internationally-recognised ISO 14001:2015 Environmental Management System certification and standards from the widely-known Forest Stewardship Council (FSC).
  • New Design Group are now a carbon neutral organisation. They have offset 100% of their carbon dioxide emissions, which was the fastest way for them to reach carbon neutrality. They are now working to reach net zero through carbon reductions within their business.
  • The day-to-day environmental impact of New Design Group has been improved. For example, all waste that they produce is now monitored and they have installed LED lighting in their factory. Their environmental improvements will make the business more adaptable and resilient in the future.
  • New Design Group also saw benefits in their sales process. They can now talk about the environment and sustainability in their tenders and pitches with ease and confidence, especially knowing that they have the credentials to back it up.

The challenges

Staff at New Design Group explained that regulations in their industry were becoming increasingly complex and that they could do with external help in navigating them. They also recognised that they were falling short on the sustainability and environmental dimensions of their tender applications.

The solution

EMS’s team of knowledgeable and experienced environmental consultants were well placed to assist New Design Group in elevating the sustainability of their business. They visited New Design Group monthly for a period of nine months, starting with a gap analysis before implementing the ISO 14001:2015 Environmental Management System and other standards. EMS’s offering also included a Net Zero Feasibility Study which enabled New Design Group to become carbon neutral and paves the way for their contribution to the UK’s goal of net zero by 2050.

Testimonial

Working with EMS was brilliant. They were professional, courteous, and really helpful. Without a doubt, we wouldn’t be where we are today if they hadn’t held our hand through the entire environmental process.
